City Council to review the Draft HTF Report at a Special Study Session on
Tuesday, 2/28/12 at 4:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers 
The Costa Mesa City Council has established the Costa Mesa Homeless Task Force to examine the homeless population demographics within the City and develop appropriate short and long term strategies to best serve these individuals. It is estimated that the work of the Task Force will last between 6-9 months.
Over the years, the numbers of chronic homeless in the community and the impact of homelessness on the adjacent neighborhoods has varied; however, as of late, there have been an increased number of concerns in and around the Lions Park vicinity that are in need of immediate solutions.
The proposed Task Force scope of work is as follows:
- Evaluation of current actions;
- Legal review of park policies and procedures, review of new ordinances designed to address long term municipal code violators, proposed legal/law enforcement strategies, and a review of current state and local laws which deal with homelessness;
- Review of best practices of other cities with the goal of developing data driven solutions;
- Examination of homeless population characteristics and development of appropriate short term and long term strategies to best serve these Homeless Costa Mesa residents
